SKTU Picket
On August 1st, the Sunnyside Kedzie Tenants Union (SKTU), ATU members and supporters from all over the city paid landlord George Triff a visit at his swanky Gold Coast condo. Rather than respond to tenants’ concerns about security issues or make basic repairs, Triff has moved to evict families that have lived in the building for decades. In response, the union formed so that neighbors can support each other and defend their rights. We picketed his home to let his neighbors know about his callous behavior and show that SKTU has community support.
Read more about SKTU’s struggle for dignified housing in the news, and stay tuned for future opportunities to stand in solidarity with them!
Pedal for Peace
Do you like riding your bike? How about social justice? Why not both?
We are excited to share our participation in the 32nd Annual Pedal for Peace Bike-a-thon!
The Pedal for Peace Bike-a-thon is coordinated by the Chicago Religious Leadership Network on Latin America. All proceeds raised will be distributed among CRLN and the following organizations: Autonomous Tenants Union, Chicago-Cinquera Sister Cities, Chicago-Guatemala Partnership, Concern America, and La Voz de los de Abajo.
This is an awesome opportunity for our organization and our communities in our collective fights for social justice here in Chicago and also in Latin America. The proceeds raised for ATU will help us continue our struggle against gentrification and displacement and for housing justice.
The 32nd Annual Pedal for Peace will be on Sunday, September 22nd from 1–5pm. For those bringing their bike to ride: Check-in, registration, and the parking location will be at the Waveland Clock Tower at 3600 Recreation Dr, Chicago, IL 60613.
Please help us reach our collective goal and donate here. If you’d like to help us fundraise, share with your friends. To ride with ATU, register here!
